The purpose and aims for Little Discoverers (WNSfP)
Little Discoverers provides an early education for pre-school children with movement difficulties and delayed development. It aims to develop children's abilities and confidence in the pre-school years to prepare for life at home and for the next stage in their education. It does this by providing a unique learning triangle: parent, child and professional; each having equal status. The techniques used and overall approach are inspired by methods used at the Peto Institue of Conductive Education in Hungary.
Nothing the parents have experienced before the birth of their child has given them any indication of the complex challenges they will meet and how to overcome them. The aim of Little Discoverers programme is to provide support to the child and parents to ensure that the maximum potential of the child can be achieved.
How we provide this support
Our specially trained staff work together in groups of up to eight children with their parent during weekly sessions.
Our Little Discoverers (WNSfP) sessions are carefully planned to involve the children in programmes that address all aspects of their development, including physical, social, emotional, and understanding. A theme is chosen to make these sessions fun. Each session includes play, song, art and craft and movement.
The Challenge
Little Discoverers is part of the School for Parents network originally set up by Scope. Many regional Schools for Parents such as West Norfolk are now registered as separate charities and have to operate as financially independent organisations. To help us become established initially in 2004 we were awarded a Lottery grant and Norfolk Community Foundation grant to cover the first 3 years. We have a Voluntary Management Group and are now dependent on fundraising, donations and grants to be able to deliver this valuable programme of work. Our experience is that when we have the opportunity to demonstrate what we do and its results then we do attract funds - but we need support to raise awareness of our activity and the benefits that we deliver to children, their families and the wider community. To raise this awareness and to help us do this we will be pleased if you will support us by becoming a Supporter of Little Discoverers.

Supporters of Little Discoverers
A wide range of individuals and organisations ranging from the National Lottery, West Norfolk NHS, Children in Need, various charitable foundations, through to local and national companies have generously supported Little Discoverers in the past, but we are always needing to secure funding. Supporters help to ensure that knowledge of our activities and our need for funding is widely known. In addition, we benefit from the wide experiences of our Supporters who contribute specific ideas and contacts for fundraising and, where possible provide support at fundraising events. Fundraising events are marked on the calendar on our website.
